I was assigned as a research assistant in May 2019 by Dr. Abu Reza Md Towfiqul Islam (Ph.D.) at Department of Disaster Management who has already published nearly 100 articles in so many international jourlas. During the COVID pandemic, he took an initiative and under his strong leadership I started to work hard with local and foreign researchers on a project entitled “Association of COVID-19 with weather variables and its impact assessment in Bangladesh”. After finishing the work, we published 3 research publications in Elsevier and springer authorized journals. Under his guidance, I completed my undergraduate thesis also titled "which was included in another project entitled "Trace element analysis of major river basins in Bangladesh". My role as a research assistant gave me the opportunity to learn advanced research techniques and implemented them in journal publications. In the COVID-19 project, I contributed to the country by applying novel methods like Generalized Additive Model (GAM), Compound Poisson Generalized Linear Model (CPGLM), etc. My contribution by using the Generalized Additive Model (GAM) in the article “How air quality and COVID-19 transmission change under different lockdown scenarios? A case from Dhaka city, Bangladesh” showed that the lockdown policy triggered a sudden reduction of air pollution in Dhaka city. In another article “Are meteorological factors enhancing COVID-19 transmission in Bangladesh? Novel findings from a compound Poisson generalized linear modeling approach” I contributed to estimate the lag-wise effect between weather variables and COVID-19 cases. Without these conducted presentation slides, data analysis, data collection, image editing with other related duties as assigned.
